A visit by this reporter to the Luskar jail in Kasna on Tuesday saw the family members reaching the jail at 9 am with packets of fruits and snacks to meet their wards. Amidst the cries of their children, came consolation from the visiting family members. Three men assured their wards not to worry as Sangeet Som was ready to bail them out.

Except the one juvenile, all arrested accused in the case are staying together at barrack number 3D.

Family members of the accused are daily visiting the jail to meet their children who are lodged in the same barrack.

When this reporter went to meet Saurabh Sisodia and Ruprendra Sisodia inside Luksar jail, they started crying and demanded Shaista (victim’s daughter) to identify them if they were among the attackers. Saurabh’s uncle, who was also present at visitors room, assured him that he will be out on bail soon. He was curious to know about situation in the village. His uncle said MLA Som had visited their house and given Rs5000 financial help to accused families. The MLA has assured families to get their children out on bail.

“I reached the spot after I heard noise in my neighborhood. At 2 am, a police team raided my house and detained me. When I pleaded innocence to a police official, he admitted that police is helpless as they are under pressure to arrest accused named in the case at the earliest,” said Saurabh.

When HT asked Rupendra about the mob attack on Ikhlaq’s house, he also narrated a similar story that he was not on the spot. He asked how could he attack the house of his friend (Danish, younger son of Ikhlaq). “The police have framed innocent youth in the case. We are eagerly waiting for October 13 when we will be taken to Surajpur court to appear before magistrate,” said Rupendra Sisodia, another accused.

Prisoners get only 30 minutes to meet relatives inside a room in the jail, when visiting time got over, Rupendra’s uncle pushed a note of Rs 100 to him. But he started crying and refused to accept the money.

“When will I come out of jail?” he asked instead.

The administration, however, has not taken very kindly to the visit by Som, the BJP MLA from Sardhana. Officials have recommended lodging of a police complaint against him for breaching the prohibitory orders in place in the village.
