To promote education in tribal areas of the state, the Himachal Pradesh government is planning to open residential schools in the zones.
The government is considering the proposal to open residential educational institutions in tribal areas to provide the students with complete academic environment under one roof, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Friday.
The state government would consider roping in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to achieve the objective, Dhumal said at the review meeting of the Tribal Development Department in Shimla.
Worried over the low admission rate in the schools in tribal areas, the Chief Minister said the opening of the residential schools could solve the problem to a great extent, an official release said.
He said the state government was also planning to provide free conveyance to the students coming to schools from distant places.
