Indian maid sues Bahraini employer
Sajitha Beevi filed a case against her employer for alleged assault, breach of contract and unpaid salary.
An Indian housemaid in Bahrain has filed a case against her Bahraini sponsor for alleged assault, breach of contract and unpaid salary.
Sajitha Beevi, 30, claims that ever since she joined the Bahraini household last October, they constantly mistreated and abused her, according to reports.
"I paid 900 Bahraini dinars (BD) to an agent in India to get a visa to Bahrain. Initially they (her employers) treated me like a family member and I was very happy.
Then after a few days, my sponsor started to verbally abuse me and gradually resorted to physical assault," a report in the Bahrain Tribune quoted Sajitha as saying.
She alleged that she was paid BD35 instead of BD50 that she was promised and this made it difficult for her to return back to India. She also alleged that all six children in the family also used to assault her.
According to the Gulf Daily News report, she was taken to the Indian embassy in Manama after she managed to escape by a Pakistani and three Indian construction workers.
Currently under the custody of the Indian embassy in Bahrain, she has been provided temporary accommodation by the Migrant Workers Protection Society.
