Intel launches Core 2 Duo processors in India
The 10 Intel Core Duo 2 and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors, unveiled on Thursday, July 27, 2006, are for consumer and business desktop.
Global chip major, Intel Corporation on Thursday unveiled its Core 2 Duo processors in India and appeared upbeat about the prospects of the new processor family in the market.
"India is a country with strong information technology early adopter community," Intel Director, Digital Home Brand Management, Charlotte Lamprecht told reporters in Bangalore.
Highlighting the features of the processors, she said, the industry saw the heart of the computer reinvented like this only after Intel introduced the Pentium processor.
Intel Managing Director, Sales and Marketing (South Asia), Ramamurthy Sivakumar said the processor is an "energy-efficient marvel", packing 291 million transistors yet consuming 40 per cent lower power.
The 10 Intel Core Duo 2 and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors, unveiled on Thursday, are for consumer and business desktop and laptop PCs and workstations, company executives said.
They said the Core 2 Duo processor family consists of five desktop PC processors tailored for business, home, and "enthusiast users", such as high-end gamers, and five mobile PC processors designed to fit the needs of a mobile lifestyle.
Asked what "happens" to the company's Pentium processors, with the launch of Core 2 Duo processors, Lamprecht said Pentium will remain a brand.
Pentium has earned "phenomenal recognition" in India for its "value", she said adding, "We are not going to throw that value away."
