'Internal hurdles dampening India's growth'
PM pointed out that the country was still weighed down by the consequences of inadequate investment in basic sectors.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said internal constraints were dampening India's growth and pointed out that the country was still weighed down by the consequences of inadequate investment in education, healthcare, urban and rural infrastructure.
"We would have been able to grow much faster... (but) in the past, we did not give agriculture and social sectors the attention they deserved," he said after presenting the NDTV Profit Business Leadership Awards in New Delhi.
"The consequences of inadequate investment in education, healthcare... Rural infrastructure stares in our face," he said.
There was also the mismatch between skilled labour and demand and overcoming each of this is a Himalayan challenge, he said.
