Jamaat Islami demands voting right for NRIs

The need for voting right for NRIs had emerged as a major issue during a campaign conducted by the Jamaat Islami in Kerala.
The Kerala unit of Jamaat Islami on Saturday demanded voting rights for all Non-Resident Indians.

Centre's decision to grant dual citizenship to NRIs would not help the Malayali diaspora as the majority of them were in the Gulf states where the host country did not grant citizenship to the emigrant community, he said.
He said this demand had been included in the representation submitted to Governor RL Bhatia.
