Katiyar is CSJMU V-C again; Prem Vrat gets UPTU

GOVERNOR-CHANCELLOR TV Rajeswar today appointed professor Prem Vrat and Dr SS Katiyar vice-chancellors of the UP Technical University and the Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (Kanpur University), respectively. This is fourth successive term of Dr Katiyar as V-C of the Kanpur University.
Former director of the IIT, Roorkee, Professor Prem Vrat, has an experience of more than 37 years in teaching, research, consultancy and management development in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the IIT, Delhi, AIT, Bangkok and IIT, Roorkee. He has been honorary research fellow in the Department of Engineering Production, University of Birmingham and International Visiting Fellow of University of Western Sydney.
Professor Vrat has received a number of prizes and honours and was recipient of the National Merit Scholarship and Lillian Gilbreth Award for his outstanding contribution to industrial engineering and productivity in India. Last April he was honoured with the ‘Uttaranchal Ratan’ award.
Talking to Hindustan Times about his priorities, Vrat said: “I will strive hard to make the university a centre of excellence. There are various other matters that I will like to address in order to take the university to greater heights. But for that, it is imperative I understand the working of the varsity.”
Though the newly appointed V-C said that he would take over charge at the earliest, he refused to tell the exact date. He said that since he was in the governing board of UPTU for quite some time, he had a good understanding about its functioning.
