Student: The moment I open my text books, I fall asleep and can hardly study for an hour or two. I’ve a boyfriend, so sometimes I start talking to him instead of studying. I’m particularly poor in maths and haven’t passed even once this year. I have a personal tutor but I’m still not able to do well.
Snehi: Your poor performance, especially in Maths, is making you so stressed that you’re not able to do well in other subjects despite being good in them. This has now become a vicious cycle and is bringing down your performance. You don’t have the time to study the whole syllabus now.
Focus on preparing from previous years’ papers, especially chapter and topics from where maximum questions are expected. A boyfriend should be a source of strength not a weakness. If he can’t help you, then let him be for the time being and focus only on studying for boards.
Student: Whenever I start studying I feel like I already know the chapter since I have studied it many times and get bored. However, when I give exams I am not able to score well. I don’t know where I am making mistakes and how I can get good marks.
Snehi: This is due to lack of writing. Most students do not write regularly. Many students prepare well, but do not score well because they don’t have enough writing practice. Writing will give you confidence in what you have studied. It will help you improve further and teach you to manage time. Those who keep writing always perform better than those who don’t.
