LF candidate wins Rajya Sabha seat
Ruling Left Front candidtate Matilal Sarkar won the lone Rajya Sabha seat beating his only rival Cong candidate Tapas Dey by 28 votes.
Ruling Left Front candidtate Matilal Sarkar won the lone Rajya Sabha seat beating his only rival Congress candidate Tapas Dey by 28 votes today.
Out of the total 52 votes cast, Sarkar got 40 votes when Dey secured only 12 votes.
One candidates each from CPi-M and Congress did not cast their votes as they were not in Agartala.
All the six members of former poll ally of Congress, the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) abstained from voting.
In the sixty- member assembly Left Front has 41 seats, opposition Congress has 13 and INPT six.
Sarkr was declared elected by presiding officer D K Das Chowdhury who is the secretary of Tripura Legislative Assembly.
Sarkar later told newsmen that he would focuss issues relating to development of the state including extension of railway line, unemployment etc.
