The Assam Rifles on Thursday said India has given a list of camps of Northeast-based militant groups, including the ULFA, to neighbouring Myanmar, but it was yet to get any response from the country.
"We have given the location of the militant camps. But Myanmar is yet to accept the presence of the militants in its territory," Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Paramjit Singh told a press conference.
Asked whether Myanmar was also going the Bangladesh way with regards to inaction, Singh said, "Its'up to your understanding."
He said Myanmar forces were asked to coordinate the crackdown against the militants so that the surveillance along the Indian side could be put up accordingly to enhance the flush-out exercise, he said, "Officially, there is no report of any action initiated by the the ghbouring country so far."
He, however, said, "Something is happening, and it's happening at different levels. There are diplomatic and political maneuvers. International pressure groups are also acting. India is seeing at the larger picture, and the long-term strategic importance of the development in South East Asia."
"Military solution cannot be the answer always. Such matters need to be addressed politically and diplomatically," Singh said.
Pointing at China's inroads into Nepal and Myanmar, he said India should keep watch over Beijing's moves. "China has made assertions in and around Northeast India. We need to keep watch over the moves," he said, underlining the need to improve infrastructure in border states like Arunachal, Manipur and Sikkim.
