Lo and behold ! the jeans gets ?dangerously? low...

Jeans, especially worn by women, have hit an all time low. Perhaps to levels that can embarrass and even raise eyebrows.

JEANS USED to be modest. Waistbands used to be waistbands. Underwear used to be under clothes.

With times changing, the story is not the same. Specially, if you're hip.

Women's jeans that ride lower than low are a sight that has become pretty common these days. And all young women seem to be headed that way. Yes, even in the so called small town Allahabad.

A look around at a traffic signal, at a market place or more importantly on the campus of any of the institute offering professional courses, would be a proof enough to prove a point.

"It is hard not to notice girls whose jeans hang so low in front, you feel embarrassed like a voyeur, peeking at their bellies as they strut down roads.

With denims that dip so low in the back, it's like a new kind of cleavage that is emerging," says Raj, a student of IIIT-A.

"Women's jeans have sunk to a new low these days and it is almost impossible anymore to find regular, original jeans that button up over your navel," quips Arshan, a student from AAIDU.

So what was original Jeans?

"One that you were in most comfortable. You can work in, relax in and you don't have to hike up on your hips, that don't make you worry about the rear view or that don't require you to buy new undergarments to wear," recalls Pratibha, a student who is still to give a try to the modern version.

Jenny, a model who wears dangerously low jeans comes to defence. "I think there is a time and a place for everything."

If worn on the road I think we should cover up with a jacket. Dangerously low jeans are fine when out with known friends, worn on the road and exposing for all and sundry is asking for trouble," asserts Jenny quite emphatically.

"It's alright when at a party with pals, but definitely a no-no on the city roads or say on campus."

PK Dhawan, a parent, feels very strongly against her daughter wearing dangerously low jeans. "I have no choice in the matter, Sneha likes wearing them since all her friends do. I just have to check where she is wearing them and caution her about being propositioned because of them," says the worried Dad.

Silver lining, however is that fashion is fickle. "We are sure there will be many parents who will heave huge sighs of relief once wearing dangerously low jeans becomes passe.

But for now, it's all the rage.

Ask men of their opinion. "It's cool and just let us just drool!"
