London-lass Katrina Kaif puts India Fashion Week on fire

Her oomphy style has left audience gasping at India Fashion Week in Mumbai, reports Khalid M Ansari.

If Liberty, co-sponsor of the India Fashion Week, aimed to make an impact by putting Katrina Kaif on the ramp, it obviously failed. With the model-actress at her oomphy best, not many were watching the footwear.

The lissom lass from London, clad provocatively in a Rohit Bal outfit, left audiences gasping for more at a specially crafted show to launch Liberty's new range. Adarsh Gupta, executive director, Liberty Shoes, certainly isn't complaining.

According to him: "We didn't know too much about Katrina till she accepted the offer for 'Liberty Revolutions'. But her professionalism has been truly amazing -- she showed little qualm in going beyond the point where most Indian models would develop cold feet. It is her uninhibited sensibility that I think makes Katrina the perfect choice for advertising lifestyle products. In fact we are already considering her for future campaigns."

While the Kashmiri beauty has not quite found her voice in Bollywood thanks to her bad Hindi, she is clearly a rage on the Indian catwalk. Her exceptional beauty, hourglass figure and bindaas  attitude have made her one of the most sough-after models in the country. And it is not just the corporate houses that are falling for her charms.

"She is easily the most sensuous rampwalker today. Yana Gupta, Jesse Randhawa, Sheetal Malhar and Gauhar Khan have sex appeal too -- but Katrina is something else," exults fashion designer Manish Arora.

Katrina, who stars alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Madhu Sapre and Padma Lakshmi in Kaizad Gustad's erotic-thriller , is nonchalant about her bare-dare act. With a number of lingerie makers at the Fashion Week also reportedly interested in signing her, the model admits she's keeping her options open.

"What's wrong about modelling lingerie? In fact I feel there's a need to create awareness about intimate-wear products that are largely ignored by Indian women. I have been recently approached to pose for the 'Lovable' brand and may take up the offer", she says.

Katrina is willing and able to strip for success and snide comments do not affect her. "If a product requires that the model expose herself, she has no business to refuse. Come to think of it, modelling is all about exposure - if it shocks some people, too bad!" she quips.
