A sum of Rs eight crore will be spent on constructing each college in the seven districts -- Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Jalna, Hingoli, Ratnagiri, Raigad and Sindhudurg.

Tope said the government is willing to consider private partnership in setting up the colleges on non-profit basis.

He said the state will spend Rs 37.33 crore on the scheme and provide land for the colleges at minimum rates.

The state government will sign a tripartite agreement with UGC and the university to which the model college will be affiliated and begin construction of the college, once the UGC approves the scheme, he said.

The Minister said the state government has decided to provide Rs 425 crore to nearly 450 colleges and some universities during the period over the next three years.

The decision jointly taken by the government and the UGC will help upgrade non-UGC funded colleges and universities.

Under the scheme, each college will get Rs two crore and university Rs 10 crore. The state government will bear 50 per cent of the total funding.
