A Manipur-based militant outfit on Friday owned responsibility for the killing of a state government officer in Bishenpur district.
According to a statement issued by Kangleipak Communist Party-Mobile Task Force in Imphal, Bishenpur district horticulture officer Sarat Singh was killed by the ultras at his house in Oinam area on June 20 for his "nexus" with rival outfit Kangleipak Communist Party.
KCP-MTF, however, denied that the killing had anything to do with monetary demand from the official.
Singh was gunned down by two unidentified persons in his wife's presence at his house.
The Manipur government had announced to appoint one of Singh's sons as a sub-inspector in the police department and Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia to the victim's family.
