The committee has already submitted several reports to the government in this connection. While the government was so far sitting tight over the reports, Ambika Chaudhury’s ‘activism’ on the issue is being seen as result of sharp infighting among senior leaders in the party. “The minister wants to settle score with some prominent SP leaders,” commented a senior IAS officer who had been posted in Ghaziabad.

While reviewing progress in the case on Saturday along with the member Revenue Board and chairman of the committee T George Joseph, principal secretary (Revenue) Yogesh Kumar, district magistrate KS Sundaram, DM Gautam Buddha Nagar Ajay Chauhan and district police chiefs, the minister said that there had been inordinate delay in action against land mafiosi but now action should be taken without further delay.

The Joseph committee had identified politically well- connected big land sharks, and it was for this reasons that the district authorities had been dilly dallying in taking action against them.

The minister directed the officers not to wait for probe report of all the cases for taking action against them. He said that action should be initiated against those who had already been found prima facie guilty. The minister has also issued instructions to immediately prepare the list and find out court status in the cases. He said that instead of abandoning the cases midway, the issue should be taken to its logical conclusion.

The minister said that irrespective of their political affiliation action should be taken against the criminals at any cost.
