Minister's remarks irk CPM

The CPM has criticised the Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Bijoya Chakraborty, for her alleged comment that jungle rule is prevailing in the state.

Tripura's ruling CPI-M criticised the Union Minister of State for Water Resources, Bijoya Chakraborty for her alleged comment that jungle rule is prevailing in the state and that the party coffer is swelling with Central government fund meant for development.

The Union Rural Development Ministry had announced that Tripura topped the list of states in the Northeast in terms of development, but Chakraborty's campaign did not mention it apparently to gain political mileage, the party said on Wednesday in a statement here.

It said that "the law and order situation in Tripura was better than any other state in the region, but the Union minister said that the situation was even worse than neighbouring Assam".

The BJP in Tripura has forged an electoral alliance with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura which, the statement alleged, was the "overground mask" of the underground National Liberation Front of Tripura.
