Mumbai residents protest over power failure
Hundreds of residents gathered on Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and brought the vehicular traffic to a halt.
Aggrieved by the failure in restoration of power supply following heavy rains, agitated residents on Tuesday enforced a road blockade in Kurla area of east Mumbai.
Hundreds of residents gathered in front of Gaffoor Manzil intersection on the Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and brought the vehicular traffic to a halt, demanding that the power supply in the locality which went off since July 27 after torrential rains, be restored immediately, police sources said.
Even as senior police officials, including Additional Police Commissioner (Central region) Subodh Jaiswal, reached the spot, they came across angry residents who demanded action against the authorities of the agency supplying power to the locality, the sources said.
The agitation which continued for over an hour was called off after police officials assured to take up the matter with the power company.
