N-deal: UPA, Left hold separate parleys
Manmohan Singh has been maintaining that he has not given up hope and a way out will have to be found.
Congress-led UPA and Left parties on Monday held separate parleys to fine-tune their strategies ahead of the crucial meeting on the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi are understood to have held discussions with the allies to formalise the response to the Left parties who want clear cut answer on whether or not the deal is off.
The meeting was attended by NCP chief Sharad Pawar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and representative from the DMK.
DMK supremo M Karunanidhi had recently expressed reservations over the deal while RJD and NCP were not in favour of early elections.
Leaders of Left parties, CPI(M), CPI, RSP, Forward Bloc, also met to fine-tune their response to the government stand on the deal following Singh's statement that the UPA government was not a "single issue government".
Singh has been maintaining that he has not given up "hope" and that a way out will have to be found on the issue.
