National Games to begin from June 1
The 34th National Games will be held in Jharkhand as scheduled from June 1 to 14, Organising Committee general secretary S M Hashmi said.
The 34th National Games will be held in Jharkhand as scheduled from June 1 to 14, Organising Committee (NGOC) general secretary S M Hashmi said on Wednesday.
Hashmi told reporters that the met department has forecast that this year’s monsoon will begin from August, about 45 days behind schedule, and this would ensure a hassle-free Games.
Even if the monsoon comes on time, NGOC was well prepared to host the annual sporting event properly, said Hashmi, who was here to oversee the preparation works.
Construction of infrastructure was almost complete and sports associations have been asked to take possession of the venues from March 5 onwards, he said.
Denying that the general elections would be a hindrance to the Games, he said the elections would be over by mid-May.
The overall cost of organising the National Games would be around Rs 1000 crores including Rs 850 crores for developing the infrastructure, he said.
