NDTV's Poonam Agarwal wins Oberoi Award

NDTV's principal correspondent Poonam Agarwal has been awarded with the Rai Bahadur MS Oberoi Media for the year 2007 in the Gold category for "excellence in exposing corruption".

NDTV's principal correspondent Poonam Agarwal was on Saturday given the Rai Bahadur M S Oberoi Media Award for the year 2007 in the Gold category for "excellence in exposing corruption".

The channel's chief correspondent Siddharth Pandey got the award in the Silver category.

Agarwal along with her camera person Deepak Verma, received the award for her sting operation exposing the alleged connivance of defence and prosecution lawyers to win over prime witness Sunil Kulkarni in the BMW case, in which Sanjeev Nanda, grandson of Admiral (retd) S M Nanda, is an accused.

Pandey received the award for his story exposing illegal mining going on in Delhi and NCR. The story highlighted the alleged connivance of forest officials and the police in allowing it to go on surreptitiously.

Divya Shah, correspondent with the CNN-IBN news channel, received the award in the Silver category for her story exposing the ease with which fake official documents can be procured. Shah along with her camera person Deepak Kumar, who shared the award with her, got a fake PAN card, voter I-Card, ration card and finally a passport made, in the name of a non-existent person, to expose the corruption prevailing in the ranks of concerned government departments.

In the print media category, Meher Prasad Yadav, Co-Editor of Dainik Bhaskar (Jhansi) got the award in the Gold category for his story exposing alleged misuse of funds in the mid-day meal scheme in 30 districts of Bundelkhand region.
