Nearly 900 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

The batch, comprising 198 women and 12 children, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here around 0505 hours despite heavy rains, officials said.

Their cavalcade of 30 vehicles, escorted by security personnel, have crossed Patnitop around 0900 hours amid heavy rains all along the Jammu-Srinagar highway, they said, adding the group is expected to reach Pahalgam and Baltal base camps in Kashmir valley by evening.

A total of 48,466 pilgrims hailing from various parts of the country have left the base camp here for the Lord Shiva temple since commencement of the pilgrimage on June 17.

The yatra was earlier suspended four times due to bad weather and heavy rush of pilgrims on June 20, 25, 27 and 29.
