NGOs launch poll awareness drive

Leaders of various political parties are making efforts to woo the voters for municipal corporation election. Late night corners meetings, several press conferences and door-to-door canvassing by the candidates and their supporters were in full swing on Friday.

The markets are floating with banners and posters flouting the election code of conduct. At the same time, municipal corporation employees had also lodged an operation to remove the banners and posters.

They removed around 1000 banners and snatched the posters pasted on the walls of various government offices and district hospital.

Meanwhile, the intervention of the Non-government Organisations (NGOs) in the election process has added more colour to the election. Members of Kasa Vikas Manch have launched urban voters awareness election campaign in the city.

They distributed handbills with the question to be asked by the voters to the candidates contesting the election. 

Daud Memorial Christian Gramin Vikas Samiti, an NGO organised a programme at the gate of Municipal Corporation office and asked the people to raise the question to the mayor post candidate regarding urban basic services for the poor and Nehru Employment Scheme.

They have cautioned the voters to vote a candidate who is honest with secular background.

They said preference should be given to the candidate who remained sensitive for the grievances faced by the local people.

In this order, state secretary of Udyog Vyapar Vijay Shanker Yadav claimed that traders’ community are in support of SP candidate Sitaram Jaiswal and appealed the people to cast their votes against the communal forces.

Members of state working committee of Samajwadi Vyapar Sabha Vidhyavasini ,Jaiswal highlighted the decision of Mulayam Singh government to distribute Rs 500 pension to the detainees in emergency and unemployed youths.

He said SP candidate was quite sincere and devoted for social work and appealed the people to support Sitaram Jaiswal. He assured of a changed look of the city.

District unit vice-president of SP Yuvjan Sabha Devendra Bhushan Jaiswal highlighted the decision of state government in favour of Nishad community to support the SP candidate. Half a dozen leaders organised press conferences in favour of BJP candidate Anju Chaudhary.
