No cause of alarm following quake in Nicobar

The Centre was not issuing any Tsunami alert as that could lead to 'unnecessary panic'.

The Centre on Sunday night said there was no cause of any alarm following the earthquake in Nicobar Islands region and it was not issuing any Tsunami alert as that could lead to "unnecessary panic".

"The police and the revenue officials in Andaman and Nicobar Islands are alert and are keeping a close watch on the situation", Union Secretary, Border Management, DK Sankaran said.

He said the Disaster Management Control Room has been activated and the Home Ministry was in touch with the concerned officials in Andaman and Nicobar and Tamil Nadu.
