In the wake of Rajasthan government's plan to launch a hunt for rape convict and senior IPS officer's son Bitihotra Mohanti, who jumped parole from a jail in 2006, Orissa police today said they had no information on his whereabouts.
In the wake of Rajasthan government's plan to launch a hunt for rape convict and senior IPS officer's son Bitihotra Mohanti, who jumped parole from a jail in 2006, Orissa police on Friday said they had no information on his whereabouts.
"We have no knowledge about Biti. Orissa police had earlier assisted Rajasthan Police when they came to the state to search him," a senior police officer in Cuttack said.
On Rajasthan's plan to send a special operation group (SOG) in search of Biti, Orissa's Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj said, "no communication had so far been received".
Biti is son of B B Mohanti, Director General (Fire Service) and Commandant General (Home Guards).
Then 25-year-old, Biti had been charged with raping a German woman in a hotel room on March 21, 2006. He was convicted on April 12.
He was lodged in a jail in Alwar in Rajasthan and subsequently released on a 15-day parole on November 20 to see his sick mother in Cuttack.
Though Biti was to return on December 4, 2006, he went missing, leading to a massive manhunt in the state.
Teams from the desert state visited Cuttack and raided several places in his search.
