No names deleted: EC
The Election Commission termed "vague" allegation about largescale deletion of names from the electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
The Election Commission on Thursday termed "vague" allegation about largescale deletion of names from the electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
A day after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the Commission of committing "lapses in the revision of electoral rolls" and alleged even a former Chief Minister N Bhasker Rao's name was not found in the voters' list, EC spokesman AN Jha said an elaborate exercise was carried out for the preparation of the rolls.
This exercise of including or deletion of names was carried upto January this year and adequate opportunity was given to the voters to redress their grievances. Even "helplines" were set for the benefit of electorate, he said.
Referring to the missing name of Rao, Jha denied Naidu's charge and said the former Chief Minister's name was there in the voters list.
The Commission had also done a "quick scrutiny" of electoral rolls in Karnataka and found many of the names appeared in the rolls.
Reports from Bangalore had it that the CEC had ordered a probe into complaints about the missing of names in the wake of BJP and JD-S finding fault with the poll panel for such a state of affairs.
