The Kerala Govt opposed private medical colleges’ demand for deployment of Central para-military forces in the state for smooth conduct of Test to select candidates for MBBS courses.

The Kerala Government on Monday opposed private medical colleges’ demand for deployment of Central para-military forces in the state for smooth conduct of Common Entrance Test to select candidates for MBBS courses.

In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, Kerala maintained that any such move would affect the federal structure of the Constitution.

The state denied the allegations of the consortium of private medical colleges that the LDF Government's youth and students wings indulged in vandalism to prevent private medical colleges from conducting the CET. It claimed it was capable of providing security for the test, and deployment of Central police forces would affect the federal structure, as law and order was a state subject.

On behalf of the Centre, Additional Solicitor General Vikas Singh told a bench headed by Justice B N Agrawal the Centre would abide by the court’s order.
