North East Express derails; 5 injured
Five bogies of the Delhi-bound train jumped the tracks near Patna.
The passengers of Delhi-bound North East Express from Guwahati had a miraculous escape when five bogies of the train jumped the tracks near Tilrath station under Sonepur division early on Monday, railway sources said.
Five passengers suffered minor injuries in the mishap, which happened at 1.45 am and were discharged after first aid, Eastern Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer AK Chandra told the agency in Patna.
He said 15 of the bogies, which were on the tracks carried on with the onward journey, and passengers from the derailed coaches were accommodated in them for their journey up to Barauni.
Four more coaches were added at Barauni to accommodate all passengers for their onward travel.
Following the mishap, routes of several trains including Delhi-New Jalpaiguri Express, Mahananda Express, Awadh-Assam Express and Delhi-Guwahati North East Express were changed.
Replying to a question Chandra said the police and railway authorities were investigating whether the accident was caused by sabotage.
Senior railway officials were camping at the site to oversee the repair work.
