Home minister R R Patil on Monday denied that the government was spending a large amount of money on Ajmal Kasab, a convict in the November 26, 2008 terror attacks.

Home minister RR Patil on Monday denied that the government was spending a large amount of money on Ajmal Kasab, a convict in the November 26, 2008 terror attacks.

“The government has spent Rs32,100 on food for Kasab, Rs598 on medicines and Rs1.14 crore on officers and advocates for the case. Besides, the Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) asked for Rs 10.87 crore on account of personnel deputed for guarding him,” Patil said in response to the remarks made by the Opposition members that the government was spending crores of rupees to keep Kasab alive.

“The government has not even paid the money asked by the ITBP. We have told the Central government not to charge us the amount since the 26/11 attack was not merely an attack on Mumbai. It was terror attack on India,”said the home minister.
