Two persons were killed when a car rashly driven by a NRI woman went out of control at Cadel road in Mahim of central Mumbai in wee hours of Thursday, police said.
The woman, identified by police as Aasna Sudhir Manda (33), a clinical psychologist from Oman, has been arrested and booked for negligent driving.
Manda was allegedly driving her car at a breakneck speed and was on way home to suburban Juhu from Worli when the accident occurred, police said.
She had attended a party late last night and had later taken her male friends for a joyride to Worli, they said.
The car veered to the left of the road and jumped on the pavement, killing two persons who were asleep on it, police said, adding that the car later banged on an electric pole before it overturned.
However, none of the occupants were injured and the woman escaped from the spot even as onlookers nabbed two of the occupants and handed them over to police. Later the woman was arrested from her home in Juhu.
She was subjected to a medical examination to ascertain if the lady was under influence of liquor. The medical report is awaited, police said.
Those killed in the accident have been identified and their bodies sent to Bhabha hospital for autopsy, police said.
