Orissa Oppn demands Naveen Patnaik's ouster
The Opposition said the Chief Minister should quit, owning moral responsibility for Friday's daring Naxalite strike in which four persons were killed.
Uproarious scenes were witnessed in the Orissa Assembly on Saturday as the Opposition stalled proceedings of the House demanding the resignation of Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Excise Minister Kalindi Behera.
The Opposition, which had succeeded in forcing Water Resources Minister Rabinarayan Nanda to resign on Thursday, said the Chief Minister should quit, owning moral responsibility for Friday's daring Naxalite strike in which four persons were killed.
The excise minister should also resign in the wake of the recent hooch tragedy in Ganjam district which claimed at least 26 lives.
As soon as the House met this morning, Congress member Anup Sai trooped to the well of the House carrying a placard which read 'no resignation of excise minister, no house'.
This set the tone for the day as the Opposition did not allow the functioning of the legislature.
Raising the matter, the leader of Opposition JB Patnaik demanding the Chief Minister's resignation for yesterday's Naxalite attack on Ramgiri Udayagiri.
The Excise Minister was 'responsible' for the liquor deaths, Patnaik said. He alleged that though the excise commissioner had sought the transfer of officials six months ago, it was not done.
Even the Chief Minister's order to transfer the excise officials had been ignored, the Opposition leader said.
