Panda demands immediate arrest of Mohanty
Panda, who has been staying with her family at her native village Kuhunda near Mahanga in Cuttack district, said she would fight to ensure that all the "culprits" in the case were given exemplary punishment.
Demanding immediate arrest of Maheswar Mohanty who quit as Orissa assembly speaker following her sexual harassment charges against him, suspended lady marshal Gayatri Panda today said she would approach the court if he was not put behind bars.
The 29-year-old marshal said she was watching the steps being taken by the police. "Mohanty's arrest is essential. If he is not arrested, I will approach the court, if necessary the Supreme Court," she told PTI.
Panda, who has been staying with her family at her native village Kuhunda near Mahanga in Cuttack district, said she would fight to ensure that all the "culprits" in the case were given exemplary punishment.
Besides Mohanty, she claimed four others, including a retired assembly official, had harried her earlier. "A complaint made by me against a senior officer in 2007 was suppressed by the authorities", she alleged.
Mohanty has denied the charges of sexual harassment leveled against him by Panda claiming it was part of a conspiracy in which influential people were involved.
Favouring a CBI probe in the matter, she said "it is better to have a CBI probe. But I hope the Orissa police will soon arrest Mohanty".
A post-graduate in Sanskrit and a "B" certificate holder in NCC, Panda alleged she was given life threats after she had made the charges against Mohanty.
"Therefore, I decided not to personally visit the police station for lodging the complaint", she said adding she would appeal to all in the government and police to give her justice.
