JKNNP state president and sitting MLA from Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia on Sunday held a public meeting at Trishi Gandala. Similar political rallies were also organised by other parties in the district.

The JKNPP and the NC have already announced their candidates for all the three assembly constituencies whereas the Congress and the BJP have yet to announce their candidates.

Out of the three assembly constituencies - Ramnagar, Udhampur and Chenani, the last one is a reserved constituency for the Scheduled Castes.

The Panthers party has been representing the Udhampur and the Ramnagar seats since the last two assembly elections while the Congress has holding on the Chenani seat.

This time the stakes are high for the BJP, which has won three of the six Lok Sabha seats earlier this year. The BJP is hopeful of a better performance in the Jammu and the Buddhist-dominated Ladakh regions and has been trying hard to achieve the majority mark of 44 in the 87-member assembly.

The three assembly constituencies in Udhampur district are going to polls along with 15 other assembly constituencies in second phase. The notification for second phase will be issued on November 7 and the last date for making nomination will be November 14. The candidates can withdraw their names by November 17.
In all three assembly constituencies in district, the number of electorate going to exercise their franc hise are 2,88,555. The number of polling stations in the district is 389.
