‘Patient-friendly’, says medical fraternity
AIIMS is the only medical institute whose annual allocation has been slashed from Rs 490 crore to Rs 452 crore this year.
Welcoming the fact that funds allocated to most Central government-run hospitals was higher than before, the medical fraternity hailed the Budget as “patient- friendly”. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was the exception. It was the only medical institute whose annual allocation was slashed from Rs 490 crore last year to Rs 452 crore this year.
Safdarjung Hospital was allocated Rs 145.90 crore, approximately Rs 30 crore more than last year. The medical college associated with the hospital, Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC), was given the same Rs 20 crore as previous year. The Central government hospital has bed strength of 1,531.
Similarly, allocation for 350-bedded Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital (KSCH) remained Rs 50 lakh as the previous budget.
Annual budget for Lady Hardinge Medical College was increased from Rs 72 crore to Rs 99 crore. The annual budget of 1000-bedded Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was increased from Rs 96 crore last year to Rs 128.15 crore this year.
