During the course of their conversation, Karunanidhi recalled that he had expressed his desire to rechristen the Sethusamudram project as 'Sethu Ram' and requested the Prime Minister to implement the project under the new name.

The DMK general council on Tuesday had also passed a resolution impressing upon the Centre for early implementation of the project.

Karunanidhi had on Sunday, in a birthday message, proposed to re-name his pet project as Sethu Ram, following opposition to the SSCP from pro-Hindu groups protesting the demolition of Ramasethu (Adam's Bridge) as part of the project.
