Police bust LeT module in Sopore, 8 men arrested

The police on Sunday busted a Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) module and arrested eight militants in north Kashmir’s Sopore area.

“A major terror plan of the militants was averted. Eight members of the module were arrested from different areas of Sopore town and adjoining areas,” said the Srinagar-based spokesman of the zonal police headquarters.

“These militants were in touch with one foreign terrorist of LeT outfit Umer Khitab, a resident of Pakistan. Khitab was taking directions from his handler Hanzulla in Pakistan,” he added.

Eight UBGL, five Chinese grenades and 100 AK-47 rounds have been recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the Kupwara police and the army’s 28-RR in a joint operation busted a hideout in a forest area of Lolab this afternoon and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition.

“One AK 56 rifle, five AK magazines, 1,000 AK rounds, one UBGL, two UBGL grenades, four pistol, four pistol magazines, 32 pistol rounds and 21 grenades were all recovered from the hideout,” said the spokesman.

The arrests have come just weeks before Kashmir is going to polls, starting November 25.
