Prince Charles arrives on week-long visit to India
Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, arrived in New Delhi on a week-long visit.
Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday on a week-long visit that is expected to boost political and cultural relations between India and Britain.
This is the prince's first visit to India with his second wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
The prince met the city's power pack, including diplomats, industrialists and politicians, at a reception hosted by British High Commissioner Michael Arthur. The touring England cricket team was also present.
The prince visits Punjab on Monday for two days during which he will go to the erstwhile princely city of Patiala. He will also visit a village to promote organic farming.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will host a dinner for Charles, who will stay for the night at Singh's new Moti Bagh Palace.
As inter-faith harmony is one of the defining themes of his visit, the prince will visit Sri Keshgarh Sahib, popularly known as Gurudwara Anandpur Sahib -- the second most important Sikh religious shrine in India after the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
He will go to Jodhpur in Rajasthan on March 29 where he will attend a conference on water conservation. He will also visit Mahendragarh fort to get a taste of ethnic arts and crafts of the state.
The royal couple's trip to India this time, however, does not have the same buzz that trailed him when he came with Princess Diana 14 years ago.
