Although Chief Justice A K Patnaik held parleys with District Collector Vivek Aggarwal to explore the possibility on raising the new building, it is the State Government and MP High Court that will decide whether the mill land can be acquired for the district court complex. Chief Justice, sources said, will take up the issue with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan shortly.

The issue reached a flashpoint when Himachal Pradesh Governor and Indore District Bar Association member Justice V S Kokje intervened vigorously in support of the Bar at the function held in district court last Thursday where Chief Justice was also present.  He insisted the district court should not be shifted from 517, M G Road to Pipaliyahana and asked Bar members to acquire mill land for extension of court facilities.

Speaking as chief guest at the function, he asked lawyers to file public interest litigation to protect the existing premises and to acquire the Plaza expanse.

Although his propositions were received with thunderous applause by lawyers, Justice Kokje’s statements kicked off an old conflict between Bar and Divisional Commissionerate Office.

While Bar maintains that Commissionerate land is part of District Court and it was latter that allocated land to Commissionery.

Commissionerate holds its vice-versa. It states that it has documentary evidence to prove ownership of land it’s the 100-year old Indore District Bar that gave land to set up Commissionery.

Land allocated for judges’ bungalows
EVEN AS Indore District Bar Association struggles to retain its ground, district administration has allocated four acres of land to MP High Court in Residency area. The land has been allocated for construction of four bungalows for Judges of Indore High Court bench.

Chief Justice A K Patnaik and District Collector Vivek Aggarwal among other administrative and HC officials inspected the land at Residency yesterday and approved the site. Of the 11 Judges at Indore High court bench, only seven have proper accommodation.
