Taking a serious note of spurt in communal violence in different districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh and reports of attack on a passenger train on Wednesday, the State Government on Wednesday asked the ADG Railways to provide police escort to the trains passing through the affected areas.

The State Government’s directives to ADG Railways have obviously come in the wake attack on a passenger train in Balrampur on Tuesday evening. As per information a bogey of a passenger train going from Gorakhpur to Gonda had been set on fire between Tulsipur and Kapapur railway stations.

A UPSRTC bus was also attacked near Phulwaria bypass in Balrampur, he said adding no fresh incidents of violence have been reported from Gorakhpur on Wednesday, though some incidents of arson took place in Gorakhpur on Tuesday night.

The security forces staged a flag march, he said adding curfew continued in four police station areas of Gorakhpur.
