Queen Latifah to host Grammy Awards
The singer, a previous Grammy winner and nominee this year, will also perform during the Grammies on February 13.
Red-hot musical diva and movie star Queen Latifah will host the 47th annual Grammy Awards show in Los Angeles next month, organisers said on Thursday.
The singer, a previous Grammy winner and nominee this year, will also perform during music's biggest celebration that will be held at the Staples Center on February 13.
"Queen Latifah is an extraordinary Renaissance artist with unparalleled style and substance, and her passion, talent and personality make her an excellent choice as host for our show," said Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy that organises the Grammys.
"We are delighted to have Queen Latifah as the host of the 47th Annual Grammy Awards," he added.
While Queen Latifah shot to fame as a rapper before becoming and Oscar nominated actress for her role in 2002's "Chicago," she is nominated for a Best Jazz Vocal Album Grammy this year for "The Dana Owens Album."
Her groundbreaking 1989 debut All Hail The Queen set the standard for female rappers and paved the way for future women in hip-hop to make their way onto the charts.
Queen Latifah is scheduled to produce and star in a new film titled Beauty Shop and is currently filming the romantic comedy Last Holiday in Prague.
