Rahul’s ‘connection’ stop: roadside dhaba

Rahul Gandhi, who is on a two-day tour of Andhra Pradesh as part of his tryst with common people in different parts of the country, has left a strong impression with the owner and employees of a roadside dhaba at Mahboobnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.
“He dropped in unannounced and like any other customer pulled one of the chairs and sat down. He was unlike any leader we have seen. So simple, without any ego hassles. I would not have recognised him but for the posse of security men and NSUI activists accompanying him,” said Amarnath Reddy, the owner of the Surya dhaba. He is yet to recover from the pleasant shock.
“We were pleasantly surprised when Rahul dropped in. We could never expect, even in our dreams that a VIP like Rahul would come to our dhaba. I greeted him with a namaste and he reciprocated. I will carry that moment forever in my life,” said Narasimhulu, who served Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul stopped by the dhaba, near the industrial town of Jadcherla , while driving from Hyderabad airport to the Bhutpur village, where he wanted to find out details about implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. He ordered a bottle of drinking water, a packet of biscuits and then masala tea. He spent about fifteen minutes in the dhaba before leaving for the village.
He spent a little over an hour at Bhutpur village, interacting with labourers to know about the benefits of the scheme and their problems. Incidentally this is one of the village, which faced recurring drought year after year and people migrated to Mumbai and Bengaluru in search of jobs.He posed for photograph with few beneficiaries and gave autographs to few kids. Earlier, Rahul was welcomed at the airport by a contingent of Congress leaders including Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, AICC Andhra Pradesh in-charge M. Veerappa Moily, PCC president D. Srinivas and M. Jannatham, TDP MP who voted for UPA during the recent trust vote.
