Ram Kumar a farmer in the area said, “We get untreated sewer water mixed with dangerous tannery effluents, which if used, damages the crop. In some areas, though the plants grow but they do not bear fruit due to the contaminated water.”

Rajvardhan another growers said, “I was a prominent vegetable crop-grower. But for want of uncontaminated water for irrigation, the vegetables were destroyed during two seasons. This caused me heavy losses.

Consequently, I have left growing vegetables. My fields have turned into barren lands. There is no one to buy them. I want to move out from here to some other place, once my fields are sold.

Heavy rains this year could have helped me but I did not grow the vegetable crop this time due to uncertainty of rainfall,” Rajvardhan added.
