Rally against female foeticide

VOLUNTEERS OF a non-governmental organisation (NGO) Vishal Bharat Sansthan took out an awareness rally ?Kanya High Alert Rally? against the growing instances of female foeticide here in Varanasi on Tuesday.

A number of minor girls involved in rag-picking participated in the rally and denounced the increasing practice of female foeticide. Neelmani Singh of Care India and director of Gandhi Adhyayan Peeth in Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Prof Ram Prakash Dwivedi flagged off the rally.

The kids were carrying placards and posters depicting message such as ‘Kanya Drohi Doctoron Ko Phansi Do’, `Doctor Uncle Main Hun Garbh Mein Mat Batana, Please Ho Sake To Mujhe Bachana’, ‘Hame Mar Ke Kya Milega, Kya Mujhse Vansh Nahi Chalega’, Ladkiyan Hein Noore Nazar, Kyo Karte Ho Inka Qatl’.

Speakers on the occasion were of the view that the incidents of female foeticide were flourishing in and around Varanasi due to active involvement of doctors. Chairman of the sansthan Dr Rajeev Srivastava said, female foeticide was an international issue and United Nations should intervene to get this practice eradicated from the society.

He said a criminal case of murder should be lodged against the doctors found involved in female foeticide.

He demanded the district magistrate and chief medical officer to initiate strict action against those found involved in such a gruesome activity.

Rekha, Nandini, Nuri, Tasliya, Firdaus, Neha, Sana, Chandani, Shamiroon, Ishrat, Nusrat, Shahini, Shalini, Shaqeena and Meena were among other kids participated in the rally whereas secretary of Astha, Dr AC Pandey, Puja, Najma Parveen, Archana Singh, Najneen Ansari, Heena Kausar and Reshmina etc. addressed the rally.

Later, the processionists forwarded a five-point charter of their demands to chief medical officer to initiate action against those involved in female foeticide in the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi).
