Rs 55-crore drinking water project for Pondicherry

Releasing the manganize entitled yeri valam (tank resources) brought out by the tank rehabilitation committee operating the European Commission funded tanks rehabilitation scheme here today, he said that a water and power consultancy services limited company of the Central Government had submittted a report for augmentation of drinking water making use of the Bahoor and Uosteri water tanks here.
He said that the European Commission faunded project had been meant for rejuvenation of the 84 tanks in Pondicherry and Karaikal Regions. A sum of Rs.28.13 crore of this Rs.34.73 crore praoject was available from the European Union while the remaining parts of the project outlay were met by the Pondicherry Administration and the farmers who would be beneficiaries. Rangasamy called upon farmers and other sections of people to use the water judicially as the future was going to be critical in getting potable water here.
