SAD yet to decide on BJP
Shiromani Akali Dal led is yet to decide on extending support to its NDA ally BJP in 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in Haryana.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) led by Parkash Singh Badal is yet to decide on extending support to its NDA ally BJP in 10 Lok Sabha constituencies in neighbouring Haryana and for the lone seat in Chandigarh.
Badal told reporters here on Monday that the party had so far not entered into any alliance with the BJP or any other party in Haryana and Chandigarh. The SAD would, however, support the BJP in other parts of the country, he added.
Answering a question, he said the statement of SGPC Presideent GS Tohra on supporting BJP nominee Satya Pal Jain in Chandigarh was his personal view as the issue had not been discussed in the party platform.
Badal told a questioner that the delay in taking a decision on supporting the BJP in Haryana and in Chandigarh was an internal matter of the party.
The SAD unit in Chandigarh has been pressing that the party put up its nominee instead of extending support to Jain.
Terming the split in Haryana SAD as 'unfortunate' development, Badal attributed it to the frustration of some leaders who were denied party tickets. "The breakaway faction would not be able to harm the prospects of the main party in the coming elections," claimed he.
He said the absence of ailing party leader GS Tohra was being felt in the ongoing electioneering for parliamentary elections, Badal claimed SAD would win all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab.
"This time, there is a simple choice between Atal Behari Vajpayee and Sonia Gandhi and the electorate has to decide the next Prime Minister," said Badal.
