He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day national consultation on planet earth programme being held at the MP Council of Science and Technology.
The consultation organised jointly by the union department of science and technology and the MPCST. Representatives of science and technology councils of various states and union territories are participating in the consultation being held to chalk out plan for the activities to be conducted during the International Year of Planet Earth of the UNO.
Speaking further, the Chief Minister said that in our culture, the ruler is considered protector and not exploiter of the mother earth. Keeping this aspect in consideration, the MP government conducted the ‘Jalabhishek Campaign’ during which numerous water conservation structures were constructed.
In the State, particularly in Malwa region - the ground water level had dipped dangerously and various schemes are being launched to recharge this ground water. Ponds are being constructed in agriculture plots, old ponds are being revived, irrigation facilities are being improved and bio-agriculture is also being promoted.
Earlier, advisor of science and technology, Government of India, Dr Anuj Sinha congratulated the MPCST for organising the important consultation during the silver jubilee year. The chairman of the Indian Science Congress Dr Harsh Gupta said that among the 3000 known milky ways, only planet Earth is known to have life. But if the exploitation of resources continues due to increasing needs of human being, Earth might be destroyed.
Director General of MP Council of Science and Technology Dr Mahesh Sharma delivered the welcome address and informed about the work being done at the Obaidullaganj Centre of MPCST in fields of tissue culture and biotechnology. He also mentioned that development of scientific attitude would solve many of ours problem.
Earlier, Chouhan also looked at the exhibition on `Planet Earth’ being displayed at the MPCST campus. He also inaugurated the PC Roy Science Books Centre at the council office.
