Senior SP leader commits suicide

Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former district vice-president of the party, Dr Kamal committed suicide at his residence in Rustampur under Cantonment police station on Thursday.

According to sources he hanged himself with a muffler in his bedroom. As soon as the news of his suicide was made public, thousand of his supporters and relative rushed to the spot.

SSP Dipesh Kumar Juneja with others police officials reached to take first hand information. Though there was no suicide note but the circumstances reveal that he committed suicide. Police took the body in possession and sent for post-mortem.

According to reports, Dr Kamal was suffering from severe jaundice from last one year. Besides, he was under tremendous pressure due to differences in the family and the notice issued to him for recovery of loans. Sources said he had a disturbed family life.

Dr Kamal was close to transport minister Naresh Agrawal. He had started his political career under his guidance.

Later, with Agrawal, Dr Kamal also joined Samajwadi Party and remained district vice-president for quite long time. Forty- five-year-old, Dr Kamal, had a dynamic personality.

Sources said due to his close relations with Naresh Agrawal, he had assured people that he would recruit them as a conductor in Roadways. For this he had taken money in advance. When he failed to manage the appointments, they mounted pressure for recovery of the advance amount.

Sources also said few days before he received a notice from the Waqf Development Corporation to deposit Rs 16 lakh, which he had taken for the development of shopping complex at Waqf land of Betiahata cemetery. 

According to the police it was suicide but those who had seen his body said there were marks of injuries, which make the case mysterious.
