"After hitting the police gypsy, the grenade fell and exploded on the road, injuring six civilians. The condition of one injured person is serious," a senior police official told in Srinagar.

The injured have been taken to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

The explosion led to disruption of traffic on the road to the north Kashmir popular tourist resort of Gulmarg.

Security forces immediately reached the spot and the entire market place was searched.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.
