Smarter cops for Gurgaon
After forming a dedicated anti-laptop robbery squad of “educated and computer-savvy” personnel, the police would soon have a “Smart Police Force” (SPF) to suit the requirements of the modern city, Sanjeev K Ahuja reports.
Gurgaon’s police force is to get smarter. Literally.
After forming a dedicated anti-laptop robbery squad of “educated and computer-savvy” personnel, the police would soon have a “Smart Police Force” (SPF) to suit the requirements of the modern city.
Apart from a modern uniform, SPF personnel would be equipped with gadgets like high-voltage electric immobilizers and folding batons.
Gurgaon police commissioner SS Deswal made this announcement on Saturday after inaugurating two mobile vans bearing slogans against drunk driving.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Parveen Kumar was working on sourcing the gadgets and uniforms.
“We are planning to source the sophisticated gadgets from countries like Israel to not only equip our force but also to make it look better,” he said.
Kumar exhibited some of the gadgets. “We have already tested a few gadgets and uniforms we plan to procure for the force. We are testing gadgets like the immobilizer that emits a 1800- volt charge at the press of the button to render a criminal unconscious for about 30 seconds. This gadget also functions like a torch,” he said.
“We have also acquired samples of ankle boots, metal caps and smart outfits to replace the conventional ones. We don’t want personnel to look boring and spent,” he added.
