Solas is a touching portrayal of loneliness and redemption. At its centre is the strained relationship between Maria and her mother Rosa, brought together by Maria's estranged father's illness.
Rosa not only discovers a world very different from her village existence but also finds her daughter's life in disarray – racked with frustration, bitterness and fuelled by alcohol.
The two discover that their relationship not only grows but is influenced by the arrival of their elderly neighbour. All three find a new purpose to their lives.

Director's Bio-note:
Born in Lebrija in 1965, Benito Zambrano studied film at the international Film School San Juan de Los Banos in Havana, Cuba. He has made two short films and written two screenplays.
Solas, his first feature film, has received innumerable awards including the Panorama Audience Award and the Special Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Berlin (1999), the FIPRESCI award in Brussels in 2000, Best Actor and Best Actress in Tokyo (1999), as well as awards at festivals in Havana and Spain.
