Sonia Gandhi launched a veiled attack on the Prime Minister by questioning his role during the Quit India movement.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday launched a veiled attack on Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee by questioning his role during the Quit India movement.

Addressing a public meeting, Sonia said that those who had not participated in the freedom movement would not understand the Congress' ideology, evolved through the tradition of struggle and sacrifices over the past 118 years.

"Those who kept away from sacrifice and martyrdom, those who had not even participated in the fight for independence, cannot understand this (Congress) tradition," she said.

In Dausa to canvass for Congress candidate Sachin Pilot, Sonia flayed the NDA regime for crushing the dreams of the youth by making false promises about providing them with jobs and for its failure to check inflation.

Sonia also came down heavily on the NDA for its "history of scams and corruption".
